Summertime Stories on the Lawn @ the Bedford Free Public Library
Well, it’s a rainy day and perfect for hitting the local library. We’ve been doing a lot of swimming lately, plus t-ball and soccer, which makes the kids quite tired. They’re napping like champs (Yes!) and even sleeping in (7:30!).
So this morning we ventured to the Bedford Free Public Library for their Wednesday morning Summertime Stories on the Lawn, held indoors in the case of rain. The room was crowded, yet comfortable. What I love about the Bedford story time is their focus on themes, today’s being monkeys. They also incorporate song, puppetry, and they get the kids on their feet just at the right time when the kids are getting a bit antsy.
The first story was adorable, Caps for Sale : A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business by Esphyr Slobodkina. The children’s librarian, Sharon McDonald, is hilarious and really entertains as she tells the story, completely engaging the children as well as the adults.
So remember, all is not lost this summer when it rains. Actually, I think in a way it is Mother Nature’s way of telling her children it’s time to dial it back, slow it down, and get in front of a good book.
