Martin Luther King Weekend on the North Shore

This Weekend:

Peabody Essex Museum: A Kite of Hopes and Dreams, Salem, Saturday, 1/15 from 1-3:00pm.  In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., join museum guests in helping to create a large kite filled with hopes and dreams for the community.

REI: Introduction to Snowshoeing Class, Lynn, Saturday, 1/15 from 1-3:00pm. For the older kids (ages 12+), get outside and take advantage of all this snow!  Discover the joy of winter and the freedom of snowshoeing! On this 6-hour field outing, you’ll not only discover the natural beauty of the Lynn Woods, but learn basic snowshoeing techniques and skills for winter travel and hiking. Don’t have snowshoes? REI can provide snowshoes, snowshoe poles and professional instruction on proper use of equipment.  Check out the link to learn about classes in Weston and Medfield too!

I’m really looking forward to the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library: Meet the Author night on Wednesday, 1/19.  North Shore resident, Author Miriam Weinstein will read from her book, The Surprising Power of Family Meals and discuss how eating together makes us smarter, stronger, healthier and happier. Miriam Weinstein is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her work has appeared in Boston Magazine, the Boston Globe magazine, Hope, and ParentSource. A former staff member for North Shore Weeklies and freelancer for Essex County Newspapers, she writes restaurant reviews and food columns as well as features on a wide variety of subjects.

Ravenswood Park: Creature Feature, Gloucester, Thursday, 1/20 from 7-8:30pm.  For all you night owls, The Trustees of Reservations has a hoot of a time planned for you! Come get up close and personal with the local owls, foxes, or red squirrels of Ravenswood Park and learn about their habits and behaviors.

The Newburyport Winter Carnival is coming next Saturday, 1/22 from 10:30am-3:30pm.  Held outside at the Bartlet Mall, activities include: skating, sledding & snowboarding, games & activities, snowshoe demonstrations by the masters at REI, cocoa, coffee & cookies, the 3rd Annual Human Dog Sled Race, winter fairy house building, horse-drawn hay rides and more!
