Homeschooling Programs on the North Shore… and beyond
Posted by Ann, Ziptivity’s North Shore Community Ambassador
Homeschooling. It makes me shake in my Uggs. In our never-ending quest to give our children what the want (and need), we may ask ourselves the question, “Is this for me – for my family?” I know but 2 families (according to fb stats, that’s .645% of my friends) that have brave enough to try it. Liz, mom to five boys, did it – successfully for about 4 years. Here’s what she has to say about it:
“Homeschooling…. It was absolutely wonderful to spend so much time at such important times with my children. That was one of our reasons for homeschooling. That being said, it’s very difficult to be everything to your kids. I know families have homeschooled for eternity but I know that I’m a better mom if my kids are away from me for some part of the day…”
Flash forward to today, Liz has all honors students with an excellent work ethic. Liz mentions too, that homeschooling is not for everyone. It takes a special child with a willingness to listen, and a very special parent with the patience to teach.
Luckily for those in the throes of homeschooling, there has recently been an upsurge in programs designed to take some of the pressure off the parents. Joppa Flats, the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary and most recently, the Eastern Point Day School, all have an abundance of great enrichment programs that allow everyone to Get Out of the house for a good part of the looong day.
