Her friend lamented at how tiresome and frustrating it was to surf various websites and newspapers with a two-year old tugging at her to “Come play with me, Mommy!”
Why wasn’t there a website which could consolidate all the great family resources and activities located in our local communities? What if we could quickly enter our zip code, our children’s ages, and our available days and times to find something appropriate to do? And why, in this economy, were local businesses spending so much money on tiny ads buried in local papers where we would never find them, even if we did have the time to search?
Cary stopped dead in her tracks. The idea of Ziptivity.com was born …
Cary McMillan Keller, Founder (ZipMom)
In the midst of balancing work and family, I have thoroughly enjoyed local Ziptivities with my kids, including Gymboree, Gymnastics Academy of Boston, ABC Music Together, Isis Maternity, First Connections, plus various local playgroups, farms, playgrounds, parks, swimming holes and sledding hills.
I received my B.S. in Accounting from Boston College, my M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and most importantly, my M.O.M. from Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston!
Casey C. Smith, Co-Founder (ZippyMama)
I moved to metrowest Boston eight years ago with my husband, Kevin and our then 1-year old son, Liam. We are now a family of six, having since welcomed Declan (8), Maggie (6), and Ruby (5). We have been living in the metrowest Boston area for 12 years and now enjoy feeling settled for the long term in such a family- friendly community.
After receiving my graphic design degree, I have thoroughly enjoyed combining my creative and marketing talents with my role as a mother to work in children’s fashion and product development. Some of the Smith family’s favorite local Ziptivities include Pop Warner football, Heavey Quinn Academy of Irish Dance, One Stop Fun, Teamworks, plus my local moms group which has been meeting for 8 years running!
Tara, Metro Boston Community Ambassador
Many years after attending college here, I have returned to Boston – this time with a husband and two kids, plus a whole lotta stuff. Things look different now, and so do I. But I still have the same desire to explore, learn, and appreciate all that Beantown has to offer. Now that I have children, I want the same for them. When we’re not at a soccer game or a Boston Children’s Chorus concert, some of our favorite Ziptivities are attending library programs, visiting the zoos, taking walks in the Mass Audubon sanctuaries, exploring museums, and playing in the local parks.
Karly, South Shore Community Ambassador
I spent most of my life in the South Shore’s tiny town of Sharon. After college in Boston, life took me North… North Shore, that is. My then boyfriend and now husband and I were renters in Stoneham and then homeowners in Wilmington. Friends and family down here thought I moved to the end of the earth, while all the northerners asked “what it’s like?” on the South Shore. It was pretty funny and really only those who cross the border (the border being the city) know that things are different north and south of Boston, but we just can’t explain how. Having said that my roots are here south of the city and now we are settled and don’t plan on moving. Our 2 kids are planting their roots here – one in preschool and the other heading that way this September.
I spent many years in the big corporate world of pharmaceuticals and while I truly loved it, nothing would prepare me for the love I have being home full time with my kids. Don’t get me wrong, I needed to work in some capacity and what better marriage of two worlds than working for Ziptivity! I enjoy activities with my girls, but I know far more about what is happening locally now that I am a Community Ambassador… and now I can share it with you!
I love being a part of all the kids’ events like a day at the Children’s Museum in Easton or a trip down to Kidz Wurld in North Attleboro. I enjoy meeting local business owners and non-profits, developing relationships and working together to spread the word about what they have to offer other families like mine. Most of all, I am excited for the opportunity to work with such great mompreneurs!
